It will take decades to live this coverup down.
Wish the Borg scandals got this kind of publicity.
first, i don't know if we have had a thread on this yet - so if this is a repost, ignore appropriately.. but i am thoroughly disgusted by this developing scandal - an assistant coach at pen state is accused of multiple, repeated, child sexual offenses.
a member of the football staff exewitnesses and incident reported it to paterno (years ago, it is reported) - and paterno reported it to the athletic director.
nothing was done, nothing was reported to the authorities.. finally, the scandal broke over the weekend.. i am deeply dissapointed with paterno - this guy was one of my football heros.

noah is not said to have carried plants in his ark.
supposedly the flood was severe enough to cover "even the tallest mountains", which would mean that mount everest was covered.
and this for forty days.

BTW, I put more stock in a Ricky Gervais stand up routine than in ANYTHING from creation.com
just before i stepped off being an elder the local congo were buying a piece of land with a building on it to convert (no pun intended), into a kh.. .
one of the things as i understand it was that they were going to have a flat for the co in situ but report to the local authorities that it ws just a janitors flat.
apparently if the council knew it was for the co it would be unacceptable for some reason.
My guess, james-woods, is that there are special ordinances for a manse or rectory or whatever else you call a minister's home on church property. If the CO lives in the apartment, then the property probably needs to fall under those sets of rules. If it is a janitor or caretaker of some sort, there are probably a completely different set of rules. One would need to know the local ordinances to know exactly how they are viewed differently.
did anyone else notice this?.
the "when was jerusalem destroyed?
" articles in the october 2011 and november 2011 public edition watchtowers were supposed to explain why it was so important to know when jerusalem was destroyed... but none of the two articles makes any mention about how the wt arrived at the 2,520 year calculation (to get to 1914)... did they think no one would notice???
Most JWs don't bother reading the "public" edition of the magazine. They don't even read the extra articles in the kool-aid edition.
in a recent talk that i heard, a brother tried to comfort those whose family members have left jehovah's witnesses.
he did so by saying that only "incorrigibly wicked" people will be destroyed at armageddon.
i found his line of reasoning refreshing, especially in comparison with the usual fear-mongering in wt publications.
Another win for jwfacts.com
it's been over 3 years since the book study in private homes was discontinued and some jws are still scratching their heads over it.
although a letter was read to all congregations explaining that "book study night" would now be "family worship night", there was still much speculation among jws as to the real reason behind this decision (the great tribulation was about to start, jehovah was simplifying the lives of jws, to lessen the burden of poor jws who had no money for gas, etc.)...
but as we all know, decisions like these from the gb invariably have some ulterior motive behind it... and discussion boards such as this one usually finds a way to dig up the truth for all to see... but after reading several threads on this subject, i'm really not sure we've uncovered all the facts yet.... so i have to ask... what do you believe really ended the book study in private homes?
I only read page one so if this has been mentioned, sorry.
Could it have been because several of the multimillion dollar pedo settlements were cases where the perv took advantage of the book study arrangement in private homes to get at kids?

They shouldn't let him resign. He should be fired and be thankful if he isn't charged with obstruction or some other cover-up penalty.
The quick action the "Governing Body" of Penn State in getting people OUT of there is one that unfortunately the GB of JWs hasn't followed.
effects of the evolution theory.
in the early 19th century, religion and science enjoyed a fairly amicable relationship.
just two years before the origin of species was published, biologist and harvard professor louis agassiz wrote that the living world shows premeditation, wisdom, greatness and that a major purpose of natural history was to analyze the thoughts of the creator of the universe.. agassiz viewpoint was not uncommon.
Quick question: Why are we feeding this troll?

He strayed from the formula.
Anyone who has ever "heard the truth" but is not a JW at Armageddon will be destroyed. That's the official doctrine. It leaves the loophole so that when you tell them that they have failed (in an EPIC WAY) to preach to everyone on earth, they can claim that those who haven't heard "the good news" Jehovah will "read their hearts."
i've heard that another 2 people have left the "truth" as soon as they could get out.
both girls were elder's daughters.
they aren't elders now because they were somewhat problem teens.
ABS, I think the Facebook groups are doing a good job of helping, as are discussion boards like this one and the others across the Internet. I see lots of both young ones and people who have been out for years joining groups for the first time. They're reading CoC and CCMC for the first time. They're finally learning that they're ok and that it is the Borg that's wrong and evil.
It is unfortunate that many continue to live with fear and guilt over the Borg but the info to help them is available. The best we can do, IMO, is continue to make it available in as many formats as possible.
